Preone

In Preone there is a big playground near the Town Hall: swings, slides, cableway and others games surrounded by the green for children, but also a skate rink, basketball and 5-a-side football pitches for everyone. In summertime there is also a bar&cafè and night lighting.

In the centre of the town there is the eighteenth-century Palazzo Lupieri, a noble example of Carnic architecture, which on the ground floor houses the naturalistic museum "Preone, 200 milioni di anni". The exhibition is connected to the "Stavolo Lunas" nature trail which starts in the village and allows to integrate the visit with an excursion in the area, following the tables which illustrate the naturalistic characteristics of the places crossed.

The entire area is a geosite of global importance for the fossil finding: the most ancient flying reptiles known, one above all, the Preondactylus buffarini, together with a rich fauna of invertebrates and vertebrates from the Triassic, such as the Megalancosaurus preonensis, small and bizarre arboreal reptile.

In the surroundings of Preone there are several walks; among these we highlight the Naut path - a path with fairy tale theme - and Tas Vals itinerary, where is located the Military Post n. 1 of Vallo Alpino.

The territory of Preone also includes Cjampon, the Preone Valley. At the bottom of the valley it's possible to admire the Arzino waterfalls and access to the sheperd's hut Malga Palis, on Mount Verzegnis (reachable via forestry track – CAI FVG trail no. 807 in approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes).

Experience the mountains in authentic way

Located in an easily accessible position, Preone is the ideal starting point for regenerating walks, outdoor activities and moments of fun with family and friends.
Within 30 km it's possible to venture into a different environment every day: from the Dolomites to the clear waters of Sauris Lake, from the thermal pools of Arta Terme to Mount Zoncolan, a winter ski resort and "infernal" climb of the Giro d'Italia. Without forgetting traditions, events, culture and gastronomy; ask information at reception and we will advise you on the most suitable experience for your holiday.
